Description

Mount Fuji, also known as Fujiyama or Fuji-san, is an iconic symbol of Japan and one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. Located on Honshu Island, Fuji-san is the highest mountain in Japan, standing at 3,776.24 meters (12,389 feet) tall.
Fuji-san is an active volcano that last erupted in 1707-08. Despite its active status, it is considered a relatively low-risk volcano, with a low probability of a catastrophic eruption in the near future. In recognition of its natural beauty and cultural significance, Fuji-san was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013.
Fuji-san is a popular destination for hiking and climbing, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The official climbing season is from July to early September when the weather is generally more stable and the mountain’s facilities are fully operational. However, the mountain can also be climbed outside of this season, weather and conditions permitting.
In addition to hiking and climbing, visitors to Fuji-san can enjoy a range of activities and attractions in the surrounding area, including hot springs, museums, and scenic drives. The mountain is also a popular subject for art and photography, and its image is often used to represent Japan in popular culture.
