Drone Guide
In Norway, drone operations are regulated by the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) under the rules of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). According to these regulations, drones are categorized by their weight and operating purpose, and there are specific requirements
and restrictions for each category.
- The drone should always be kept within your sight and operated in daylight and in a mindful and considerate manner. Never fly near accident sites.
- Never fly closer than 5 km from airports unless you have explicit clearance to do so.
- Never fly higher than 120 meters off the ground.
- Never fly over festivals, military facilities, or sporting events. Keep a distance of 150 meters.
- Be considerate of others’ privacy. Take note of the rules concerning photos and films of other people.
- For drones weighing less than 250 grams, no certification or registration is required, but operators must comply with general safety rules, including keeping the drone in sight at all times and not flying higher than 120 meters. (ex. DJI MAVIC MINI).
- For drones weighing more than 250 grams, the operator must be certified, and the drone must be registered with the CAA (register here https://luftfartstilsynet.no/en/drones) The drone must also have a label with the operator’s contact information, and the operator must follow specific rules and regulations depending on the type of operation (e.g., commercial or recreational).
